Former professional tennis player, Siobhan Drake-Brockman has recently joined Schoolkate Tennis at Claremont Tennis Club.  Drake-Brockman was formerly ranked number 2 in the world for juniors in singles and reached a career high of 109 in singles on the Womens’ Tennis Association Tour. -  read more

 TENNIS COACHING BY PROFESSIONAL TENNIS COACHES

Peter Schoolkate is the current Club Coach, a position he has hald since 2001. He recently signed a new contract that will keep him at the Club until at least 2014. Peter won the WA Tennis Coach of the Year aware in 2007/2008 with the Tennis Coaches Association in Western Australia. During his involvement with TCAWA, Peter was a lecturer and examiner of practical exams with development and advanced courses. Recently all TCAWA tennis coaches have joined Tennis Australia Coach Membership and there is now one tennis coach's provider in Australia. Peter's Tennis Australia Coaches acreditation status if "Club Professional". Peter has also become a Talent Development Coach, as Tennis Australia does recognise excellent, passionate coahces who specialise in the development of under 12s. Vuk Velickovic, Ben Webster, Simon Ferriera and Tristan Schoolkate are some of the talented players Peter has helped improve as tennis players. All of these players have good national rankings in their age group with Tristan being in the top 5 in Australia for players born in 2001.

While at CLTC Peter offers a wide range of tennis programmes, group lessons, prive lessons, junior/teen clubs, club tournaments, sanctioned tournaments and a tennis tour to Bali. Peter is the Coaching Director of Schoolkate Tennis which employees qualified energetic assistant coaches in Siobhan Drake-Brockman, Andrew Clarke, Jenny Sutherland and Anthony D'Ignazio. All these coaches have excellent coaching and organisational skills and are a part of the coaching programme which caters for all ages and standards.

  SELECT THE PROGRAMME FOR YOU

Little Tennis (4-7 year olds, 45 minutes) - Classes are no more than 6 players per coach with the main focus being FUN while teaching and improving the players hand/eye co-ordination. This is a fun introduction to tennis.

Junior Classes (7-13 year olds, 1 hour) - Beginners to intermediate players where all the strokes of tennnis are taught. Drills and fun games are then added with the aim to further develop players skills whilst have fun. Coaches at this level are always looking to select players to move through to the Development Squad.

Development Squads (8-16 year olds, 1 hour) - Most players are at pennant (competition) level or for players who need to be challenged. Topspin, doubles positioning, scoring, drills and all strokes are covered during these lessons. A minimum required standard is needed to join these classes. 1 out of 3 serves in from the baseline in the correct box comfortably is a guide.

Match Play (8-16 year olds, 1 hour) - These are additional sessions for players who are in the Development Squads and are held on Thursdays and Saturdays. Players train at the Development Squads and practice their tennis at Match Play. Singles and Doubles in a competition format are offered in these sessions. As required in the Development Squads, a minimum level of play is required.

Holiday Clinics (4-16 year olds) - Clinics are offered in all the holidays with players practicing their tennis for 3 hours every day. The 4-7 year olds have a one hour session every day. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday all strokes are covered with some revision on Thursday. Friday is the round robin tournament with prizes and a party to finish off the week.

Private Lessons (all ages) - One on one lessons is another way to further improve your game of tennis. It is recommended that there be one group lesson plus 1 private lesson a week. Lessons can be booked with any coach and are usually booked for the term.

Ladies Drills - A very popular tennis session for the ladies held on Wednesday mornings 9.30-11.30am. A variety of drills are undertaken which cover most aspects of the game with the aim of the session being to practice your tennis in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Week 8 of the term should never be missed as this is the "Champagne Tournament". Want to know more....then you had better sign up!!!!!
